Mojmir "Taras" Sevcik (A)
Plays banjo and sings lead and harmony parts, sometimes also does with some finger-picking guitar playing.
Taras was born in 1962. As a kid he struggled with piano for 7 years. After hearing a pioneer country Czech band "Greenhorns" at his age of 12 he decided to try banjo. One year later the american bluegrass music heard on the radio turned him into bluegrass permanently. As a teen-ager he founded his first band "Pram" and later the band "Kopr". In 1989 he moved to Austria, where he now makes his home in Bad Ischl. In 1990 he formed the Austrian-Czech band "New River Train". Taras is one of the leading personalities of the Czech and Austrian bluegrass scene. Since 1999 he became a member of Banjo Jamboree Hall of Fame. He is a monster when it comes to a jam-session playing, plays and sings all night long and is hard to stop. He is the rare type of banjo player that can back up a song without even picking a string ... Taras plays Janish „Picker“ banjo and Yamaha FG340 guitar, plus Rolls electric banjo, using GHS Strings.
Michal Hromčík (CZ)
Plays guitar and sings lead and harmony vocals. Born in 1960, Michal first took some formal violin and clarinet lessons. He took up guitar at his 14 and a banjo two years later.
70´s saw him with a student rock group “Omicron“ and 80’s and 90’s with country and bluegrass bands “Kroupy“, “Uvidime“, “Vedro”, “Tyrkys”, “Uhlak” and “Hello”. In the late 80’s he founded and led an a'cappella quartet “Ucho”. That vocal band in it’s short history - unfortunately interrupted by a serious car accident - had won several prestigious national awards eg. at Porta 1986 and Jazztival 1988. Besides the above mentioned short stints with bluegrass bands Michal was for years an active member of eclectic guitar trio “PUK” which later continued also as a guitar duet. This lead to a mainly instrumental CD recorded by the trio and guests in 2001 and called Guitar Session. At NRT he is the ever-creative troublemaker who always comes up with changes and suggestions when others would think that everything’s fixed. Michal plays Furch guitars with GHS or Elixir strings.
Milda Toman (CZ)
He has been actively playing and singing country and bluegrass music for more than 35 years now. In 70s he became a member of local band Kyvadlo that soon received national attention. Milda was several times acclaimed as a top instrumentalist on guitar and mandolin as well as songwriter. In 1983 after several successes at national PORTA festival and competition The Kyvadlo band won a chance to represent czech bluegrass music in a international bluegrass festival at Toulouse, France. There the band shared stage with the top acts such as Newgrass Revival, Seldom Scene and Peter Rowan. At that time the band also recorded for national czech radio and national television and played at top czech national clubs and stages.
In the 90s Milda moves to Kitchen Band consisting of top regional musicians. This band made 3 demo albums (only distributed via friends and personal networks), one of them recorded live at church. Lately Milda was a member of "First Highland Saloon Orchestra". And since 2007 he adds his mando chops and sings lead and tenor with us at NRT.
Filip Hromčík (CZ)
The newest addition to the band, joining in Jan 2009 in the age 17. Filip has first shown his musical talents as a small kid, enabling his family sing Chrismas carols in spontaneous acapella quartet form in his kindergarten age by adding his high baritone parts.
In later years Filip acted couple of years professionally in local theater including several performances in National Theater Prague.
At the same time has recorded several homemade albums of his arrangements of favourite songs on his multitrack Yamaha keyboard. As a teenager he joined local pop-rock band The Rest performing in clubs and festivals singing harmonies and playing lead electric guitar. For two years has also lead another teenage/schoolmate band Sunclock playing mostly his own original songs.
Lately he was kind enough to fill the bass guitar spot with us and now adds also solid lead and bass vocals.
